Zaragoza, October 6, 2025 – GLS Spain has started construction of its new regional hub in Zaragoza, a state-of-the-art logistics facility that reinforces its operational network in northeastern Spain. The installation is being developed in collaboration with Montepino, one of the leading logistics developers in the Iberian Peninsula and a benchmark in Aragón, under a turnkey model that supports the company’s growth and transformation plans.
Located in the Plaza industrial park, one of the most important logistics platforms in southern Europe, the new hub will enjoy strategic connections to the A-2 (Madrid and Barcelona), A-23 (Valencia), and AP-68 (Bilbao), making it a key site for the expansion of GLS Spain’s network.
With a plot area of 21,491 m², the facility will include a 7,385 m² warehouse and 942 m² of office space spread across two floors. The hub will be equipped with three automated sorting systems with a combined capacity of up to 16,000 parcels per hour, enabling GLS to meet growing demand and increase operational efficiency.
“This project represents a firm step in our logistics transformation and expansion plan, strengthening our presence in Aragón and providing GLS with a first-class facility in one of the country’s most important logistics hubs,” said Sonia Aira, North-East Division Manager of GLS Spain.
Technology, sustainability, and employee wellbeing at the core of the design
The warehouse will achieve LEED Gold certification, incorporating a wide range of high-impact environmental and energy measures: photovoltaic panels covering 20% of the site’s electricity consumption, water-saving systems reducing usage by up to 45%, 38 charging stations for electric vehicles, sustainable construction materials, mitigation of the urban heat island effect, and enhanced indoor environmental comfort.
From an operational and innovation standpoint, the hub will feature an integrated building management system (BMS), advanced video surveillance, a complete telecommunications network (wired + Wi-Fi), and a flexible design geared toward process digitalization.
Employee wellbeing is also a key focus in the project’s design, with dedicated rest areas, a fully equipped cafeteria, changing rooms with separate showers, employee parking spaces, accessible entrances for people with reduced mobility, and spacious, well-lit work areas.
A key step in GLS’s expansion plan
This new facility marks a milestone in GLS Spain’s strategic plan, focused on enhancing efficiency, capacity, and sustainability across its national network. The collaboration with Montepino, a publicly listed company with a strong presence in Aragón, ensures agile execution aligned with the highest technical and environmental standards.
Construction will be completed by March 2026, with operations expected to begin in the second quarter of 2026.
